Bee One Interior

I was approached by design consultancy FauvelKhan to create an interior for a new electric city car. The inspiration for this design was to mix two of my favourite interiors; a 1960's mk1 Mini and a 2009 Lamborghini Reventon. All switch-gear is on the steering wheel, apart from the centre piece for the car which is an iPhone and its 'apps' (sat nav etc). When the vehicle's batteries are low, the steering wheel has a large circular light on the face of the hub that will illuminate red to warn the driver that the car needs charging. The air vents for the heater are made into a feature by using brass as a material (or mock brass). A single straight piece of extruded alloy is used for the dashboard main structure, which has stowage on top of and underneath, similar to a mk1 Mini. The car will feature independently sliding bench seats, also in black. The car was designed for Bee Automobiles Ltd and was taken on BBC1s Dragons Den to gain further investment (aired summer 2009).

Citroen CC

Here in the UK with business and industry dying out, economists say in a hundred years time we may only be trading off our knowledge. The CC was a concept I created to strengthen any economy and at the same time eliminate inner city congestion. Designed to replace current transportation systems, eventually the CC would be the primary method of transport in every major city around the world.

MG GT

“A car that’s equally desirable to a 16 year old and a 60 year old”. This was the brief set by the Toronto Car Design Competition 2007. If the statement ‘you can sell a young man's car to an old man but you can't sell an old man's car to a young man’ is true, then is designing a young man's car with practical features the solution? The car was aimed at a male aged between 16 and 60. When I was 16 I found supercar and classic car design characteristics highly desirable. So I designed the car around two desirable features. First is the off-centre exhaust pipe. It’s recognisable as a feature that was on many classic and vintage racecars. The second is the vertically hinged door, a feature only seen today on a Lamborghini or a Keonigzegge.

Honda S3000

After the success of the Honda S2000 sports car, an opportunity emerged for Honda to design a vehicle for the bigger GT market. Working with Giovanni Picardo the (then) chief designer of Honda, Milan, I was set a brief to design the S3000. It was an open brief with only a basic package drawing to work from (wheelbase, height, width, engine location and dimensions). Looking closely at the Ferrari 575M, Aston Martin DB9, Jaguar XK/XKR and Hyundai Coupe I wanted to create a new direction for Honda and a unique marketing strategy to make the S3000 the market leader. The strategy was for Honda to produce a V8 by joining two four-cylinder engines together. Honda produce the most powerful, normally-aspirated four-cylinder engine in the world, and if they were to create a V8 from two of these, they would have an engine more powerful than even the Jaguar XKR’s supercharged V8. The price of the car however would be pitched the same as the standard Jaguar XK8. So, the Honda S3000 would offer market leading performance figures for entry-level money.

Semiotics

A purely visual and philosophical project with an aim to understand form and signs given out by the unwritten language of design.

CLAM Utility Vehicle

For each part of the countryside, this concept for a utility vehicle will re-invest ‘life’ back into rural businesses, restaurants, tradesmen, families or farmers. My idea was a refrigeration van, which primarily brings freshly caught seafood to the inner most parts of the countryside. Called ‘CLAM’, the single seater van can deliver to businesses or homes. There are 10 different body shapes to choose from that can be swapped over at little cost. They all share the same platform, which houses the two wheel units. These wheel units (axles) can be easily unplugged and removed. However, what makes the CLAM special is that the bodies and platform were designed so they could be sold as a contemporary caravan as well. So the vehicle will be sold in two completely seperate markets.
